| Description | Fishing in the Putorana Plateau: peculiar features
These are rivers among the mountains with cold and clear water, that is one of the basic conditions for the thrift of populations of Salmon fish. Fishermen can catch there a 30-kilo Taimen (Hucho taymen), or one-two kilo (max up to 8 kilo) Dryagina char (Salvilinus Drjagini), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), 1-1.5 kilo Siberian Grayling (Thymallus arcticus), big (up to one kilo) Siberian whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus pidschian), lenok (Brachmistax lenok), and Valek (Coregonus cylindraceus). Very large individuals of Pike, Perch, Burbot (Lota lota), roach, and minnow are also found there. The fish here is abundant and quite large. In the rivers flowing down the plateau, the largest taimens in the world (up to 50 kg) can be found; such individuals can be found only in some parts of Yakutia and remote areas in Mongolia.
These areas are far for from civilisation. Access to most of the water bodies is possible only by MI-8 helicopters; therefore an expedition there is not a cheap endeavour.
The fishing is done by boating and from the river banks. Active walking is recommended in order to reach some particular areas, which cannot always be seen from water.
This is an area in the Polar Circle. The summer is short – only July and August, the autumn begins in September, freezing-over of rivers and snowfalls occur.
Here are the only water systems, where all typical representatives of the Siberian Salmonides can be found – Arctic char, taimen, grayling, Siberian whitefish, and lenok.
